Gem Semi takes the faceted glass globe that Ludovica and Roberto Palomba designed for Foscarini in 2017 and slices it in half, so it sits against the wall like a softly glowing jewel. The diffuser is mouth-blown into an engraved mould and then acid-etched, which leaves a pattern of overlapping waves across the surface that stays visible even when the lamp is switched off.
Lit, the reliefs break the light into gentle gradations of brightness while the open back washes the wall around it. A slim matte wall plate in white, gold or graphite holds the glass and hides a single E26 socket. It works well along hallways and stairways, beside a bed or as ambient light in a living room.
